On Saturday, May 14th nearly 700 Toronto philanthropists and socialites joined us at Heart of Fashion in support of North York General and a new Interventional Radiology (IR) Suite for our hospital. Presented by returning title sponsor BMO Financial Group and hosted by fashion icon Jeanne Beker, the sold-out event raised $1.2 million while our guests enjoyed the ultimate party of the season.
The event was located on a private ravine property in the prestigious Bridle Path neighbourhood. Guests mingled in the incredibly decorated marquee while enjoying gourmet food by Pusateri’s Fine Foods, cocktails, a TNT curated fashion show, a surprise musical performance by Glass Tiger front man, Alan Frew and plenty of dancing! A new feature this year, the Fabricland Scrubs Design Challenge called on Toronto’s up and coming fashion designers to employ their the creativity by designing a signature piece made up of a minimum 50% medical scrubs. Yanis Allen from Toronto Film School won the grand prize with her creative design.
The evening also included a live auction featuring a pair of tickets to the exclusive 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, an autographed guitar from Frew and game 7 Platinum tickets to the Raptors vs. Miami Heat game! "The Heart of Fashion event was a huge success and we are thrilled to have exceeded our goal of raising $1 million," says Terry Pursell, President & CEO, North York General Foundation. “We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our sponsors, donors and guests.”
Funds raised at the event will support the development of a second, full service, state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology (IR) suite at North York General. “Our dedicated multidisciplinary IR team is so thankful for the generous support of everyone involved in Heart of Fashion,” says Dr. Ryan Margau, Clinical Director for Vascular and Interventional Radiology. “The new suite, with gold-standard technology, will allow us to offer both improved and an increased number of services, better patient outcomes, and shorter recovery times for our patients.”
We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported this event through corporate and family sponsorships, ticket sales, donations and the live auction. We also want to say a heartfelt thank you to event Co-Chairs Sharon Baruch and Kate Lisus, and our entire Heart of Fashion Advisory Council for all of the work that went into creating this memorable event.
