North York General Hospital Foundation (NYGHF) and PFAFF Automotive Partners crossed the starting line, and put their shared communities to the challenge in a three-year race to raise $853,000 to replace all of the hospital beds at North York General Hospital (NYGH) by 2018. PFAFF has not only partnered with NYGH in the marketing campaign required to raise these funds, but has generously kick-started the campaign with a $150,000 donation! Pfaff was quickly joined by the Shariff Family who committed an additional $50,000 in thanks for their experience of exceptional care at NYGH. Two days into our three year effort we stand at $200,000 raised!!!

For the hospital’s patients, a hospital bed isn’t just a bed – it’s the place they first met their newborn baby; it’s family game night; and, for children, it’s where they exercise their imagination during recovery. The first wave of the three-year campaign is titled, “It’s not just a bed. It’s a race car!”

This is not your typical bed campaign, and with the help of PFAFF, we’re taking “It’s Not Just A Bed. It’s a Race Car”, literally.  This Campaign will see a visit or two to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, bringing some friendly competition, in beds and cars, to the track! Plans are in place to engage physicians, front-line staff, and the entire community in this group effort. We simply can’t do it alone.

“We are thrilled to have PFAFF on board for this partnership. We have all known someone who has needed to stay resident in these beds, whether for a short or long term period. It’s important to us that we’re able to offer not only comfort, but safety and a good patient experience for the best possible outcomes during those stays.” -- Terry Pursell, President & CEO, North York General Hospital Foundation.

“Both of my children were born at North York General Hospital, so I have a personal and emotional connection,” said Chris Pfaff, President and CEO of Pfaff Automotive Partners. “I’ve experienced firsthand their superior patient care, one of the ideals to which our own organization aspires. NYGH does great work, and we love the marketing campaign they’ve put together around this initiative. We’ve worked on programs with the hospital in the past, and we know that many of our clients are the hospital’s clients as well. We are excited to partner with NYGH with this leadership investment, and look forward to helping them get the word out about this important program.”

To bring the campaign to life, Pfaff’s Autoworks division has customized one of NYGH’s beds with upgrades featuring race car design cues, to demonstrate the two organizations’ commitment to racing to the campaign’s finish line. The customized bed also symbolizes the unique experience and exceptional patient care NYGH provides. Also on hand at the announcement was a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, accompanied by Canadian Platinum Class champion driver, Chris Green.

NYGH Hospital Bed Overview:

The epicentre of care and a vital part of treatment, every single patient requires a bed. And every area of care within our hospital – from Emergency Services and Oncology to Intensive Care, Surgery, Medicine, Palliative Care and beyond – has unique bed requirements to provide the most appropriate level of care customized to our patients’ individual needs.

North York General admits over 400,000 patients each year to 426 beds throughout all areas of our hospital. Beds are critical pieces of equipment, serving as a means of care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But at 10, 15 and even 25 years old, our beds are approaching the point at which they must be replaced with advanced technology and surfaces that enhance patient care and safety.

While the government funds many of our hospital’s day-to-day operations, it often does not cover the cost of new and replacement equipment, including beds. We are relying on our community to help fill this urgent need. Please donate today, by visiting http://nyghbedcampaign.kintera.org/
